The comedy duo Bill Maher and Kamala Harris are in talks about producing a kids’ movie that they hope will give children an insight into life and teach them to respect people, their feelings and the way they live.
“I want to make a film that will change the world,” Harris told the BBC.
“The movie we are working on is called Bad Education.”
In a joint statement, the duo said the project would tell the story of a student who learns about the difference between good and bad education and what it means to live.
The project is expected to be released in 2018.
Harris said the idea for the movie was inspired by an episode of her sitcom, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, in which her daughters, Maya and Sam, were involved in the creation of a documentary.
“We wanted to create a film about the different aspects of learning,” she said.
Maher said the film would be based on his book Bad Education, which he co-authored with actor and comedian Ben Affleck. “
A lot of my friends are really, really smart and really creative, and we all see our lives in a different way, and I wanted to give them a chance to explore it.”
Maher said the film would be based on his book Bad Education, which he co-authored with actor and comedian Ben Affleck.
The pair said the movie would tell stories about a child who “has been through a really bad experience”.
It would include footage of a school teacher who is fired after the student is diagnosed with autism, and a child whose parents are deported after the child is diagnosed as suffering from schizophrenia.
“You are not allowed to see your children in public, you are not able to speak to them in the way that you would like them to,” Maher said.
The two comedians were also involved in a joint comedy tour with Maher’s son, Oliver, who also co-wrote the film with Harris.
The tour will take place between February and May next year.
“He is so talented and talented at what he does,” Maher added.
“But I’m also very lucky to have him as a friend.”
The project has been criticised for focusing too much on parents.
In an article on the Huffington Post, writer and educator Tanya Banta said that the film should focus on children and should not be “a reflection on parents”.
“Parents are the ones that are making these decisions for their kids,” she wrote.
“Parents should be a central part of this movie and not the storytellers.”
Maher and Harris have been known to make provocative comments about politics and race in the past.
In February, Maher made a series of tweets about Donald Trump’s presidential bid.
He claimed the Republican nominee had a “white privilege” because he was born in America and was “not the first person of colour to run for president”.
“When Trump says he was elected because he is a white man, he’s not talking about the actual people of colour, he is talking about Trump’s actual supporters,” he said.
Earlier in the year, Maher criticised the Republican National Convention after it was revealed he had attended several events in his hometown of New York with white nationalist leader Richard Spencer.
“There’s a lot of stuff about him that you don’t want to hear.
You don’t wanna hear that he is anti-immigrant.
You know what he’s saying is that America is racist,” Maher told ABC News.
The former comedian was one of the first celebrities to denounce Trump during the US presidential campaign, saying he should stop trying to “unite the world”.
In October, Maher and his wife, Susan, launched a crowdfunding campaign to help fund a documentary that would “explore the lives of young people and the experiences they have had”.
They said the fund would be used to “provide access to the voices and experiences of young African American people”.
